Backstory

Here’s a brief summary of my professional experience.

I’m a developmental editor and creative producer of books, fiction podcasts, narrative games, and other forms of storytelling. My specialties are science fiction, fantasy, and horror,  but I also love thrillers, noir, and psychological suspense. I have a diverse portfolio with everything from media tie-ins to literary fiction, standalones to serials, secret histories to epic futures, family dramas to societal upheavals, BIPOC and LGBTQ+ heroes.

My career spans nearly thirty years and hundreds of titles, including award winners and bestsellers. My clients are novelists, game developers, audio dramatists, screenwriters, and book publishers. In 2023 I was commissioned by Blackstone Publishing to assist J. Michael Straczynski in editing the late Harlan Ellison’s The Last Dangerous Visions.

As a senior creative executive at Realm, I produced serial fiction podcasts, from single-voice narratives  to full-cast audio dramas, including Orphan Black: The Next Chapter, Undertow: Blood Forest, The Shadow Files of Morgan Knox, Gods & Lies, Bullet Catcher, Low Life, Bookburners, and others. I was also the curator and host of the anthology podcast Stories To Keep You Up At Night.

When I was a senior editor at Tor Publishing Group, I acquired and edited bestselling and award-winning works of original fiction by Brooke Bolander, Seth Dickinson, Max Gladstone, David Mack, Mimi Mondal, Sunny Moraine, Ilana C. Myer, Lawrence M. Schoen, Brian Staveley, James Swallow, E. Lily Yu, and many others. During that time I co-produced my first audio drama: the award-winning, two-million download, science fiction thriller podcast Steal the Stars, written by Mac Rogers and produced by Gideon Media.

Earlier in my career, I was a senior editor at Simon & Schuster, where I specialized in fiction based on world-renowned third-party intellectual properties like Star TrekWorld of WarCraft, Resident Evil, and the DC and Marvel comics universes. Before S&S, I was a marketing communications executive at DC Comics

Working with an editor means entrusting a stranger with something incredibly precious. I take that responsibility seriously. You can count on me to be honest and direct, but also easygoing, upbeat, and encouraging. I live by a very simple idea, one I try to impart to all the writers under my care: that pessimism is a misuse of imagination.
